I see your face

I see your face and I remember
Meeting your smile that summer
The way you owned a room full of people
Making them laugh, just by being you

I see your face and I see a man I wanted to know better
I see someone with a tough past, but kind and sensitive
With honest blue eyes I would get lost in…
Well, life happened and you were with another

I see your face and I don’t understand
What it is I did for you to be so harsh
It couldn’t be tough love, could it?
I don’t know what you decided to punish me for

I see your face and I feel regret
You never took the time to know me
You were so quick to judge and decide I was weak
So I decided not to upset your logic.

I see your face and wish I didn’t act the way I did
It wasn’t fair, but neither were you
There’s more to me than meets the eye.
It’s a shame, really, that you could not see that.

I see your face and, with it, comes a big question mark
Suppose we hadn’t been so childish, so reckless
I may have grown to love you.
Would you have loved me too?
